We live at the unique intersections of being both Womxn and non-white. We have unique struggles and needs and The Harambee Collective centers this belief within every experience we design.

+ WOMXN

The Harambee Collective is a community for all conceptions and representations of womxnhood. We specifically use womxn with an “x” to signify this belief. Our use of womxn is meant to ensure that The Harambee Collective is inclusive of trans women, genderqueer, genderfluid, and non-binary people of color.

+ WOMXN OF COLOR

We recognize that there are a range of races and ethnicities within the label of “womxn of color.” By womxn of color we mean all non-white womxn.

+ SIS/SISTER

We understand that the term “sister” or “sis” is usually a gendered term. When we use this term on our website and in our discourse we use it as a term of endearment inclusive of all expressions of womxnhood.

+ HARAMBEE

Harambee is Swahili term meaning “Let’s pull together.” Everything about The Harambee Collective – from our content to our structures – is meant to foster a community of womxn pulling together in love and support.

+ GROWTH

The Harambee Collective is a space for growth. Growth requires us to make mistakes, (un)learn, (re)learn, observe, reclaim, grieve, apologize, study, reconnect, be vulnerable, and adjust. If you want to grow, there will be growing pains. A comfort zone is a beautiful place, and sometimes necessary. However, nothing ever grows there. Let’s grow together.
